Merry Tex-mas Ya'll!

Tom

Our first week in Texas is coming to a close, and it has been an experience to say the least. We headed out for breakfast before driving out to Fredericksburg for the week. American breakfasts won me over fairly quickly I have to say.

Onward to Fredericksburg though, where we spent christmas with Ellen's family in a nice rented house with pool, hot tub etc. Though the temperatures didnt really get high enough to use the pool, the hot tub has had plenty of use.

Fredericksburg is rather touristy, but lovely people nonetheless and an interesting experience. The weather wasn't great christmas eve and mainly consisted of shopping and getting last minute groceries in. Boxing day, I headed down to the pacific war museum with the guys whilst the girls stayed at the house. After lunch we then drove out to Enchanted rock for a walk in the state natural area. This was our first walk out here this year and was a bit short as we had to get back ready to go out for dinner and we were all a bit full after christmas day. Oh, and of course we had to squeeze in some hot tub time!

The final day saw us check out early to head for breakfast at a diner on the outskirts, where I've finally experienced a proper mountain of pancakes. Which of course I didn't manage to finish. After breakfast saw us head Back east toward Austin via a brief stop at the Texas Ranger Heritage Center and then via Luckenbach. The latter being a small town founded in the 1800's that hasn't changed much over the years other than the added modern amenities and becoming a bit more touristy. Other than that, this was the sort of thing I was really interested in coming out here, and I'm now definitely starting to warm to it here, much to Ellen's relief I'm sure!

A number of things planned for the weekend and hopefully we'll get to go to Salt Lick BBQ (or another BBQ place) before we pick up the campervan on monday!
