Week 17/18 - Cupboards, Curtains, Shower Door
The van is now useable!
The shower door has gone in, shower system plumbed in and a few more shelves installed etc. Also the composting loo has now arrived and works well and now the Insurance are finally happy that it’s a camper and not a commercial vehicle, so one less thing over our heads!
We have finally decided on some blackout thermal curtains to separate the cab area, and pleased to report that they are very effective even in the middle of the day.
This week I installed the first set of wall cabinets too and we took the van for the first test night away. However that turned into two nights away, a bit impromptu but well worth it. 😅 Happy to report that off grid electrical is not going to be a problem, never dropped below 50% with a full evening and morning of use and had fully recharged off solar and minimal driving each day. Solar should only get better as we move into summer.
Most of the systems work well, but we do need splashbacks and a way of containing any overspill behind the sink on a slope. We also need to have a look at the shower door as there appears to be a slight leak underneath it somewhere. So investigation to follow this next week, I suspect water is overflowing the bottom rail, maybe the drainage holes aren't big enough.
It’s now usable though as I say, but we still have a number of things to finish off. the bed extension cushions still need upholstering for example and particularly around the shower and getting the toilet cupboard finished, door on and water tight.
Still... Time to book a first trip, maybe we should take it down to France in July?
From now on, the updates will come as and when we have a decent amount to talk about as its just details from now on.
